Ruby Cortez, Program Director

Hello Breakthrough Community and supporters! I am Ruby Cortez, the Program Coordinator for Breakthrough Sacramento.

I am an enthusiastic Breakthrough community member educated in and dedicated to the educational development of youth. As a former Breakthrough Teaching Fellow and Dean of Students, I have a comprehensive understanding of the many facets of programming and how it builds student confidence, leadership, and academic success.

I have a degree in child development from CSUS and have experience working for Sacramento County Office of Education’s AVID program for youth. As a child development professional, I apply educational theories and methodologies to design, develop, and deliver successful programs for Breakthrough Sacramento and integrate instructional technology to provide dynamic training for its teaching fellows.

Students who come to Breakthrough receive my year-round commitment to their individual development and academic success from middle school through high school, and on to college.

Faith Galati, Executive Director

A great big WELCOME to all in the BSAC community!  I am Faith Galati, the Executive Director of Breakthrough Sacramento. I have more than 20 years of experience serving youth in the Sacramento community as a board member for Stanford Home for Children, advocate for CASA of Sacramento, fundraiser for Shriner’s Hospital, Save Vernazza, International Bridges to Justice, Global Medical Foundation, and more. I am also an operations and development professional with 16 years of experience as an executive in the financial industry.

In my youth, my family moved often, living in four U.S. states and the Marshall Islands. I attended eight different schools between kindergarten and high school. Due to inconsistent curriculum from school to school, one grade rarely flowed naturally into the next. Learning was unnecessarily complicated. Upon graduation, I attended the University of Nevada Reno obtaining a BA in Journalism, and later attended CSUS to obtain an MBA.

I have a deep sense of commitment to the success of Sacramento’s youth and am dedicated to the delivery of educational equity. At Breakthrough, we make learning enjoyable, engaging, active, and motivating. Here is where students self-identify as intelligent and capable.

I am proud to take a leadership roll in bringing back Breakthrough Sacramento and continuing its legacy of serving area youth, as well as inspiring future educators. I firmly believe most of societies' challenges - be they economic, social, or political -- can be solved if we just ask ourselves one question . . . what is best for our children?
